Getting Up Close and Personal Series: DK Designs

We are excited to start our “Getting Close and Personal” blogs with some of our favorite specialty vendors.  We will be blogging about unique vendors that we think everyone should know about.  We don’t want you to just know what they provide, but how they came about and their passion for the products they give their clients.

This week we are “Getting Up Close & Personal with DK Designs

We want to introduce you to an incredible company known as DK Designs. Diane Phillips, founder and owner of the company, describes DK Designs as a company that specializes in handcrafted clay florals and stationary for weddings and special events. After speaking with Diane, we gained an inside look into DK Designs. She began making greeting cards with rubber stamps, but found the art of clay flowers while working full time in high tech. She was fortunate to study the art when she was telecommuting to Hawaii and she instantly fell in love with CLAYCRAFT by DECO art.  Diane explained that although she feels like she is not the best drawer, she’s always been good at conceptualizing and putting things together.  She liked that the clay art allowed her to experiment and try new things. When we asked Diane what makes DK Designs different she answered by saying that she’s not a traditional florist. She went on to say that she handcrafts flowers out of air-dry polymer clay. She uses no molds or pre-cut forms; each petal is delicately handcrafted to create realistic blooms to be used for bridal bouquets, centerpieces, hair flowers, cake flowers and more.  It’s a keepsake and an eco-friendly alternative to fresh flowers. Diane expressed that 2010 is already shaping up to be an awesome year. One of her main goals for 2010 is to develop new flowers that she hasn’t tried yet in clay form. “I’m excited to put more of my energy into designing new flowers to add to my portfolio and offer to my clientele,” explained Diane.  Take a look at the unique bouquet she did for our studio that included white branches, feathers and her special handmade florals:

She expressed that the most popular flowers right now are peonies, ranunculus and anemones. As owner of DK Designs, Diane personally works with each one of her clients and custom makes their flowers.  Every bouquet is an original and a one of a kind creation. No two flowers or bouquets will ever look exactly the same. One of the best parts of creations that come from DK Designs is that a wonderful keepsake is created to remember all wedding day memories. Many people can’t even tell that the flowers aren’t real! Check out DK Designs today!
